Karaoke Night in the Cantina

Make a version of the song “West Coast” (by Coconut Records) in the style of the Star Wars cantina band, complete with singing aliens.

A big Thank You to Chris Hardwick and everyone at Nerdist, Jason Schwarzman (he is Coconut Records), Billy Dee Williams for stopping by Phirmilab (WHAAAAT?!), Dannah for being the voice of the Tonnika Sisters, Theresa Patten-Köckert for being the female half of the choir with me (at the end of the song), and Ben Burtt for being a genius.

(Ben Burtt is the sound designer for Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Wall-E… everything with great sound and amazing voices. I’ve learned a lot about him and his work in the last few months, and he is now one of my heros. Check out his book “The Sounds of Star Wars” — it’s incredible!)

PS. I got to shoot Greedo! For no good reason!

“Gersberms (Yer Gervin Mah)”

In keeping with our love for songs that are listenable but pretty much impossible to sing along with, Hard ‘n Phirm presents: “Gersberms (Yer Gervin Mah)” featuring Hayley Williams (from Paramore), Melissa Rauch (from Big Bang Theory), and an excitable little foreign dude.

Kristen Rutherford (Attack of the Show, Wired’s Geek Mom) and I host this G+ hangout on the 2nd Tuesday of every month.  This month: MUSIC.  We’ll hang out with Jonathan CoultonBrett Gurewitz (Bad Religion) & Gina Gurewitz, and Paul Sabourin (Paul & Storm).

Watch live at youtube.com/geekandsundry at 8pm (PDT)

I swear it’s not just parents talking about how adorable their kids’ poops are.  It’s geeky parents sharing ideas on having fun with geeky kids (and… alright… occasionally mentioning their geeky poops).

*If you miss it, it will be available on YouTube, right next to Episode 1 and Episode 2!

w00tstock — The Song

Well, looky here!  Or even better, listeny here!  ‘Cause it’s a new song!

Proudly features vocals by my best buddy Chris Hardwick & new old pals Paul and Storm.

It’s a tribute parody about the geek-themed variety show “w00tstock“, which is itself a geek-themed tribute to the Woodstock festival, created by Paul and Storm, Adam Savage, and Wil Wheaton.  (I’m very lucky to have been invited to perform in several of them. They really are little love-fests, like Woodstock, minus the mud and with more “On” buttons.)

It’s a parody of Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young’s incredible cover of “Woodstock” (orig. by Joni Mitchell), which you younger fans might not be familiar with, but which you should definitely get.

“Garfunkel and Oates” at Phirmilab

A few months ago, friends and fellow comedy-musickers, Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci (“Garfunkel and Oates”, respectively) asked me if I’d be up for producing some songs for their first full-length album.  I checked with everyone at Phirmilab (computers, instruments, service droids, &c.) and it was a unanimous “1”!   So, between September and December of 2010, we recorded about eight songs, six of which are on their new album…

It’s a fun record that I strongly recommend you add to your collection of albums with the word “face” in the title.

Available on iTunes and from CDBaby!

(And see if you guys can guess which song I sing back up vocals on it’s “Weed Card”.)

NOTE:  The other tracks on the album were produced by excellent musician, producer, and great guy, Eban Schletter.  (He’s made music for Mr. Show, Spongebob, Drunk History, and most recently, he’s been the audio architect behind the brilliant Paul F. Tompkast.)
